Why New Hampshire is the best place for Summer Camps

by on

Over the past 100 years, summer camps have become a popular tradition in America on the East Coast and New England. Summer camps have thrived and become so ingrained in the American tradition that it’s hard to imagine the United States without them. New Hampshire boasts the honor of being the birthplace of the modern day overnight camp. The first summer camp was a small affair on Squam lake, where kids could enjoy the joy of hiking and canoeing. Families quickly realized the positive impact a camping experience could bring to youth of all ages, especially those living in cities.  After that first summer camp in 1881 the idea quickly took off and spread throughout the Granite State. New Hampshire now is home to 160 licensed camps including Camp Quinebarge, founded in 1936.  Since then we have carried on the tradition of fun and friendship for over 80 years

Camp Quinebarge prides itself on bringing campers together to celebrate friendship and fun in a beautiful ready-made environmental learning center. We have the same values today that it was founded over 80 years ago; Experiential learning, making memories and friendships, trying new things in a safe and inclusive community are the cornerstones of what we do and what we have always done. Being one of the top New Hampshire camps for Environmental Leadership is important to us. Blessed with our amazing location with 1,250 feet of lakefront on Lake Kanasatka, and 70 acres of forest, Camp Quinebarge is an ideal natural classroom. Our goal is to maintain the traditional camp experience that children have enjoyed for over 80 years while enhancing it with new environmental themes and activities along the way.  Our campers are also lucky to head off campus with our hiking program to safely explore New Hampshire’s nature wonderland to Chocorua, Mounts Morgan and Percival, Rattlesnake, Cannon Mountain, and of course Mount Washington.

If you’re thinking of sending your child to camp, New Hampshire with all its history being the birthplace of camps, and its natural beauty, makes it the best state to send your child to camp. Licensed by the State of New Hampshire, and Accredited by the American Camping Association,  Camp Quinebarge has been routinely rated one of the top camps in New Hampshire and New England. In 2023 we also hold the spot for best camp for boys, and we are also ranked the best LGBTQ+ friendly summer camp in the nation. With almost 300 5-star reviews on Google from parents and alumni, you can be assured that Quinebarge is a truly top-notch camp.

Winter is the time most families secure their summer camp spots for summer.  We anticipate many sessions filling before spring.
