The Many Benefits of Learning to Ride at Camp Quinebarge

by on

At Camp Quinebarge, we believe every camper should have the opportunity to try new things, challenge themselves, and have fun in a safe and supportive environment. One of our most popular activities, “Horses,” offers all of this and more—at no additional cost! Unlike many other camps,  our horse camp is included for any camper who signs up, making it an accessible and rewarding experience for everyone.

Building Confidence and Independence

Working with a horse is empowering. Learning to communicate with such a large and powerful animal teaches patience, trust, and self-assurance. Whether it’s their first time on horseback or they’re experienced riders, campers leave our Horses activity with a sense of accomplishment and pride.

Developing Responsibility and Compassion

At Quinebarge, campers don’t just ride—they learn how to care for their equine friends. From grooming and picking hooves to mucking out stalls, they develop responsibility, empathy, and an appreciation for the work involved in caring for animals.

Enhancing Physical Fitness and Coordination

Riding is a great workout! It improves balance, core strength, posture, and coordination. It also engages muscles that aren’t often used in everyday activities, making it a unique way to stay active while having fun.

Enjoying the Outdoors and Unplugging

In today’s digital world, spending time outdoors is more important than ever. Our Horses activity takes campers out into nature, allowing them to bond with animals, breathe fresh air, and enjoy a scenic trail ride at the end of the week.

Making Memories That Last a Lifetime

Riding for the first time, playing games on horseback, and experiencing the joy of a trail ride—these are moments campers cherish long after summer ends. The friendships, skills, and confidence gained in our Horses activity create lasting memories.

At Camp Quinebarge, our experienced and patient staff prioritize safety above all else. We lease our well-trained horses from Pond Hill Ranch in Vermont, ensuring the best possible experience for campers. Whether learning to groom a horse, playing games on horseback, or enjoying a peaceful trail ride, campers in our Horses activity gain valuable life skills while having the time of their lives.
