A Day in the Life of a Quinebarge Camper – Helping First-Time Families Feel Right at Home

by on

Sending your child to overnight camp for the first time can feel like a big step—for them and for you. At Camp Quinebarge, we want every parent to feel confident and excited about what their camper will experience. That’s why we’re giving you a window into a typical day here at camp: full of structure, sunshine, and the kind of magic that only happens at Quinebarge.

Morning: Rise, Shine, and Dive In

The day starts with the cheerful sound of the wake-up bellat 7:30 AM. Campers roll out of bed in their cozy wooden cabins, greeted by their counselors and cabinmates. they head to the dining hall for a hearty, kid-approved breakfast served family-style—think pancakes, eggs, fruit, or cereal, with plenty of laughter and song to go around. After breakfast campers head back to their cabin for a quick cabin clean up before they start their day.

From there, it’s time for the fun to begin. Each Sunday, campers choose their activities for the week, giving them the freedom to follow their interests or try something brand new. Weekday mornings features four activity periods, one each hour from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Whether it’s archery, horseback riding, crafts, nature exploration, or our high ropes Adventure course, there’s truly something for everyone.

Afternoon: Splash, Relax, Repeat

After a lively morning, campers enjoy a well-earned lunch at 1:00 PM, followed by a restful break in their cabins. This downtime allows for letter writing, quiet games, or just recharging for the rest of the day.

At 2:30 PM, the whole camp heads to the waterfront for General Swim, a camper favorite. Whether they’re diving off the dock, playing water games, or relaxing on the beach, it’s a perfect time to cool off and have fun together.

From 4:00 to 5:30 PM, campers participate in a final activity period, a chance to enjoy a most anticipated activity before dinner.

Evening: Camp Spirit and Reflection

Dinner is served at 6:00 PM, with more great food, laughter, and connection. Then at 7:15 PM, it’s time for our Evening Activity—a special all-camp event like capture the flag, campfire skits, talent shows, or themed games that bring everyone together.

At 8:00 PM, the camp community gathers one final time together for Friendship Circle, a Quinebarge tradition that centers everyone with a strong sense of togetherness.

After that, campers head back to their cabins for showers and wind-down time. At 9:10 PM, each cabin holds a Candle Pass, a beloved tradition where campers share their thoughts on the day, what they’re grateful for, or just a quiet moment with their friends. It’s a peaceful, grounding way to end a joyful day.

Then it’s lights out, as campers drift off to sleep under the stars, surrounded by new friends and the sounds of the forest.

At Camp Quinebarge, each day is thoughtfully planned to help campers feel supported, included, and excited to learn and grow. For first-time families, knowing what to expect can ease those natural worries—and help you feel just as ready as your child for a summer full of fun and friendship.
