How We Create an Inclusive Community at Camp Quinebarge

by on

Part of the core values of Camp Quinebarge is to create a safe and inclusive community for all our campers. For over 86 years we have been welcoming campers from all walks to life to make Camp Quinebarge a second home. Ours is an intentionally inclusive community, where children grow, learn, and make everlasting friends, regardless of background, religion, socio-economic situations, gender identities, race or national origin. Camp Quinebarge ensures each child is able to pursue their goals and be themselves and our staff assist this period of growth and exploration. While our program and activities are designed to be fun for all, ultimately it is the friendships and shared experiences we forge together that make Quinebarge the special place children will remember for the rest of their lives.

We believe that making all members of our community feel welcome, safe, and supported at Quinebarge is one of the most important things we can do as a camp. We are proud to be an intentionally LGBTQ+ friendly summer camp, providing a safe space for our LGBTQ+ campers and staff, while immersing them in a safe, enriching, and fun program. While Quinebarge is not tailored specifically to LGBTQ+ campers, we’ve committed ourselves to being open and inclusive for all campers who choose to join us.

The beauty of Camp is in bringing people together, regardless of their background, and helping them to have fun while forming everlasting bonds of friendship. Our professional, dedicated counselors kick start friendships using cooperative and team-building activities, so each child feels a sense of community from day one. Additionally, with special experiences for each age group, unique camper’s choice activities, and our one-of-a-kind Monkeytown program, campers are sure to have the best summer of their lives. More importantly, they return home having grown in confidence and independence, and with new friendships that will last decades.
